Yeah, another good lesson on why never to take a hack saw to the stock pipes to add on aftermarket mufflers like was done by this idiot I know...

DAMN $1000 for a set of stock pipes? I just took the stock pipes off my 77. The mufflers are shot but the pipes are perfect. I think it's time for ebay to come thru for me.

I think the LTD pipes were originally made by Jardine. You might check to see if the mufflers are still available.

I've picked up a few sets over the years, and never paid more than $250.
The last set I bought ( and the ones on the bike now ) are near mint .
I've even picked up NOS down pipes ( head pipes? ) for under $15.00 ( each pipe ) off of ebay ;)
Good luck and keep your eyes open!

I have a set of really new looking almost brand new looking pipes and if I could get half of that I would be happy as a pig in a sty. A grand! Inflation must be getting up there.

Things are only worth what someone ( or some fool ) is willing to pay. Me... I prefer to shop and I have a mental list of items wanted, but not needed. And I can take my time and buy at MY price. But there are always items that seem to catch my eye that I've always wanted, and I throw common sense out the window :pinch:  ;)

I'm with you on that one. But now I am getting this urge to fill my garage with these bikes. Must be the Gringo bug. It all started with trying to find a bike to ride in good shape so that I could tear apart my 79 so I looked at newish bikes that needed no work then my brother God bless his soul? talked me out of that and found me one in California and looked at it for me and talked the guy way down on the price plus got a bunch of new stuff added in for 20 bucks extra and at that price and seeing the pictures of this bike with 7300 miles on it I said ok buy it and ship it here. I still think it was a great deal but it had much the same gremlins as well although in great original shape and not nearly as bad and so now I have two bikes I want to polish and restore. One to stockish shape and the other to be wild and no expense spared take out on Sundays bike. I have spent so much time on the new bike it seems my baby is just sitting for me waiting for the winter time. Now that my brazilian is expecting I am expecting too. I expect that she will wait forlorn in my garage as the new baby will eat my pocketbook up. That and the house that I need to add a roof, windows, siding, gutters, fix the soffit and fascia and of course finish up with remodeling the kitchen as it is unfinished. Somehow, some way I will get it all finished before the next millenium.

I guess the problem is that just the cost of having a set of pipes chrome plated can cost over a grand nowadays, so that is probably driving up the price of pipes that look new.
