Barn fresh Z1 with no numbers on steering head. (not removed!)

I recently aquired a barn fresh Z1. There is a Kawasaki sticker on the frame under the gas tank with a frame part number, but nothing on the steering head. There are no signs of tampering or repainting. The engine number is 059XX. (last two digets left out). That would put it in the 1973 range? The swing arm and front rotor numbers look to put their dates at late '72 and early '73. I have no title, and do not want to go to our DMV untill I can nail down the year of manufacture.

No numbers on steering head generally means it was a replacement frame, and the part number sticker on it seems to support this.

Might make things a little more complicated when it comes to getting a title.

Did Kawasaki have troubles with there Z1 frames or is this usually the cause of a crash? What does this do to the value?

Thanks,
Tom

Does the frame number start with Z1F and the engine Z1E ? Ive never seen one thats not stamped on the frame. As long as the title matches the engine or frame number you should be OK. If not, you have problems. Here you have to post a $100 deposit and they run a title search if its clean you get the title and the $100 back

I had a new 73 Z1 and the early ones had frame cracking problems from wheelies. That may be what the deal is or as mentioned it was wrecked. I still have 2, one thats all original but the exhaust
