Wheel bearing removal.

I went to replace my front wheel bearings this past weekend and I could not get the old bearings out of the hub. The circle clips were removed with no problem but the sleeve between the two bearings would not move enough to get anything on the bearings to drive them out. What do you guys do? From the looks of the old bearings, it is the rear bearings whining. That is a bummer because I have to remove the stock exhaust to get the rear wheel off, a PITA. Thanks....chris3

I purchased a bearing removal tool on eBay (about US$40.00) and it works like a charm...there are several old threads that discussed this tool.

Can't help on the bearings as I've never had to replace a bearing yet, but look for other options than removing the exhaust. They wouldn't make you do that to remove a wheel (hopefully). Some motorcycles you can unhook the shocks and drop the swingarm below the exhaust for wheel removal.

I had the same problem,Chris, but I eventually DID get the collar to loosen up enough to move it to the side enough to get to the edge of the bearing.Get in there with a drift, and see if you can't ge that collar to move to one side.
I just did mine a few weeks ago, before our trip up north.

And yes, bearing puller kits are available at a lot of auto-parts stores.

I use a propane torch and warm the hub that makes it a lot easier and when you go back together put the bearings in the freezer and warm the hub up and the bearings will just about fall in place

As a matter of fact, that's exactly how I do mine, and the last bearing DID drop right into place.

Ya,that's pretty much a must when you're pulling the old bearings out,for sure. And of course, putting new ones back in.
