forks
06 Jul 2008 20:51
I tried adjusting the pressure in the forks on my KZ700, but only one side will hold air. I've never seen oil coming out of the forks and am really hoping not to have to change the seals. Any ideas? Thanks!!

I had the exact same problem with my KZ700 forks.
What I did was change the valves on top of the forktubes. They are the same as the valves you put in your wheels.
I even got them for free at the local dealership.
Don't expect too much of it though. The air assisted frontsuspension worked better in the adds than in real life...
Don't put air in it with a compressor, just use a handpump. You only need a little pressure or the seals will blow...
The volume inside the forktubes is very small so when you use a compressor it is very difficult to put the right amount of air in the tubes...
I tried to look up the pressures in the workshopmanual, but couldn't find them for the KZ700.
However I found these for the KZ750L: 8.5 to 13 psi
As far as I know the KZ750L is fairly similar to the KZ700.

If you have not done so, go to a bicycle shop and buy an air gauge for bicycles. It only goes up to 30 pounds and is much more precise in setting your fork or shock air pressure....chris3
