Hey all,

I understand the math for 630 to 530 conversions and I can't find (search function)that posting where calculating the chain length for swing arm extensions.

It was something like "for every inch add 4 links" or something like that.

Basically a 2" difference between the KZ900 and ZX6RR swing arms... I'm staying with the 630 chain due to the hard to obtain 530 (18T) with 1/2 inch offset counter sprocket.

Received my 13.5mm offset CC 630 sprocket and now need to order a chain...

Might as well just pay a little extra and get the 110 link, cut & grind as required... Still like to know just the same...

Knowledge is power... Ok, I'm old and stupid and I just want to friggin know...

Thanks,

i used a narrow width of nylon strap and stretched it around my front and rear sprockets, and measured that to come up with my chain length when i built my extended swingarm.string could work the same if careful.hth

630 chain is 3/4" center to center between the pins, so 2 links = 1.5", 3 links = 2.25".

Using stock sprockets, a 2" longer swingarm would need 6 extra links (3 top and 3 bottom on the chain run) over the stock chain.

Using other than stock sprockets, you would have to figure in the difference in teeth between the stock ones and your's.

Or use 531blackbanshee's method to determine the length in inches then divide by .75 for 630 chain to determine the number of links required.

Thanks Banshee, good idea but can you provide your results?
Example it came out to 100" thus equating to 102 links for a 630...

BTW, some of you are probably saying to yourselfs "Damn old fart, why don't you just measure your chain and get the number of links per inch"...

That's cause the previous ass wipe owner cut the chain off... I guess they figured I wouldn't need it...

ok i just checked, but i didn't put that info in my post.i switched from 630 to 520 and went with 17/38 gearing and i believe i needed like 110 links but my buddy at the bike shop got me a 130link chain and i cut to fit.i can check it tonight and let you know,if that would help at all.here is a greasy shot of it installed.

Banshee that's ok... No need for you to have to go crazy on it.
BTW, loved your posting (wife egging on Harleys)....

I have the 630 to 530 conversion math down...
Probably just slight variations for 520 conversions...

Sprocket tooth count/5 x 6 = new tooth count for size
OEM chain/5 x 6 = new chain length

I'm just sticking with the 630 picth and increasing my rear tooth count to 37 versus OEM 35 for a little extra gearing change.

it is not a problem to check tonight if it will help at all.me and my wife grew up with fathers that rode and were not afraid to twist the throttle,so we came by it naturally:P .we like harleys but we understand the differences in engine design and purpose.i love your bike and can't wait to see it finished, and would like to commend you for trudging throught the mindf*&% part of it.
