Fork seal replacement problem was created by jrjstuff
So yesterday I decided to install so new fork seals! I had devised a pretty nice 8mm allen tool that I used with my air impact gun. The first side went just fine. Then as I removed the second fork tube ( the one with the obvious bad seal ) I was really bummed out to find that the once 8mm hex bolt was now pretty round and fully stripped out. Anyone have any ideas? I would really like to get that seal replaced!

Ahhh another great reason I need a welder! Any ideas for the welder less mechanic? ( Know that I will be showing the wife another great use for the welder though ;) )
I was thinking of notching it with a cold chissle and using a sledge on that notch but what if it happens to be one of those tough bolts to get out like I hear of so often?

It is stripped out but not by my doing! What about forcing a 10mm 12pt in there with a sledge? I mean what are my alternatives? Am I going to end up having to drill that thing out? No I cant do that that may destroy the threads in the leg and then I am really up a creek? I really want to get this resolved beings I already have one side complete!

Is a left hand tread bolt something that I would be able to find at the local hardware store? Ace? Funny you should mention the torch idea beings I just picked one up at a local garage sale! I have seen the welded tool that others here have made and posted pics. but as I have said I lack the welder to do that so the bolt seems like a great idea!

If you can drill off the head the allen bolt, the lower part of the fork should come apart????

Ahhh Cmmman there is the best idea I have heard. I mean I am going to have to replace the bolt no matter what and once the head is gone I could just pull that part out and vice grip that bad boy out beings it is no good anyway!!! I will have to get on that tomorrow after work! Thanks for all of the ideas everyone, once again this site pulls through with just a plethora of knowledge. I love it!!

yeah, its like i always say, when in doubt drill it out. :)

The damper rod holder is helpful to like JMKZHI said. For my 650 i made one with a 3/8 drive, 7/16" taiwanese socket with a bolt with a 17mm head welded in.
