I don't recommend vaseline, what works well is glycerin based soap like dishwashing liquid.
If you have a good set of tire irons, I guess the odds are only about 50-50 that the inner tube will get cut during installation. I have done a few, they are not easy if you have to do it by yourself. The rear ones are worse because of the rim locks. They used to charge $20 at the shop to mount a tire, and inner tubes cost be about $7, so I figured if I tore one or two tubes in the process, I still came out a little ahead (if you don't count the misery of the job).

Thanks everyone fot the two cents.
They are Elite II tubeless...130/19/16 in the rear, cant remember the fronts.
So does that make it easier or harder on me???
LOL And to be honest if I DO attempt DIY...I have every intension of trying it with just a skinny screwdriver and soapy water!! Thanks for the pic though, that was awesome.
I could just run it somewhere to have it done sat morning, if I can find someone open and not scarry looking to trust. Hehe, even though sometimes those are the most trust worthy shops.
When it comes to toys i have a very very hard time trusting places for some reason to owrk on stuff...yet ill take a shinny new car to the shop with out a batting a eye...wierd.

If I'm going to get them mounted by a shop, I'll generally order the tires through them as the local shop here automatically doubles their charges for mounting/balancing if you bring the tire in from somewhere else so any discount you got is pretty much lost

If you do it yourself, go ahead and at least buy tire irons. On top of screwdrivers having a good chance of pinching the tube, they will tear your wheels up pretty good because the surface area of the screwdriver where you are prying is round agaist a relatively soft aluminum wheel. (I assume aluminum, don't know 550s). I've always done my own tires since I was like 13 yrs old and it's definately worth doing it yourself if possible.
This reminds me of one of my many stories. I was 16 yrs old riding about 25 miles away from home and got a flat tire. I had $5.00 in my pocket. I go to a motorcycle shop and find $5.00 will buy me a tube, but I have no tools? So in my 16 yr old wisdom I thought I would go to Target, steal 2 large screwdrivers, mount my new tube, then return to Target and return my theft item to the shelf. Well I'm immediately snabbed up by security guards as I attempt this, so goes my life of crime
Must have had big problem will people stealing cheap screwdrivers in that store, as they were right on top of it.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
