Dual Brake Conversion

So I've almost won my auction on eBay for a set of calipers from a 1978 KZ650SR. I just assumed they fit, but none of the parts (calipers, fork tubes, etc) match up part numebr wise. Can anyone confirm one way or the other? I still think they'll fit, as my old caliper fit an E1 fork when I replaced my forks.

From personal experience I know that 79 KZ650, 76-80 KZ750 twin, 77-79 KZ1000, and 83-85 GPz750 calipers all interchange when bolting them on the fork lowers, so I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that they will bolt on.

My 79 750 twin has 79 KZ1000 drilled disks with 83 GPz750 calipers and 95 GPz1100 master cylinders, and stops "really" well :)

Yeah thats what I figured, can't really see them not fitting. The only mod I'm really going to do to the system is put on braided lines, the whole setup should be enough to get her pulled down quick.

I suppose yours does stop really well!!

I'm thinking about drilling my rotors, I'm gonna have them in the machine shop anyways to turn them down a little, might as well go a bit further. Why do most ones I see have an aligned radial pattern? I was thinking about doing the arc-type pattern like you see on cars, new bikes, etc.

Oh PS do you think I should keep the oil cooler and pan i got? I came across that stuff after, and I've just recently decided not to go all out and hold off on the bigger cylinders for a while, although she may become turbocharged a little over the winter. :woohoo:

What would you recommend I use for throttle bodies?

If you don't have any problem with heat, I don't see any reason to add the extra weight of an oil cooler and lines. If/when you install a turbo, then the oil cooler would probably be a good idea.

The GPz750 Turbo and GPz1100 (82-84) are undoubtedly the easiest to use since they bolt right on, although the 1100's will require you to get different carb manifolds and modify them a little bit to fit the 1100 throttle bodies.

Sounds good. Yeah i think I'm gonna stick the cooler in a corner, it'll come in handy one of these days, and not exactly the easiest parts to come across.
