custom rear sprocket?
12 Jun 2008 20:07
Alright. Finally that time to buy sprockets for my gsxr swingarm swapped kz750. I finally found a good 3/8" offset 530 sprocket. 14T-16T. Now I am in the market for a sprocket for the rear. I am finding many different 530 chains for gsxr's that will work but they are all in the 45T area. A kz would need a much smaller rear sprocket right? What size rear sprockets came on the 530 equiped kz's? Do you think there is a manufacturer who who would make a sprocket just for my project(530, less teeth)?

oops my mistake. Earlier I said 3/8" sprocket. 5/8" is what I meant. This should fit behind the stock cover right?

Try here Jordan
And if you don't find anything here, give Jeff a call and ask him what he MIGHT have, that will work for you.
He doesn't always list ALL of his parts on his site.

I know there used to be one because I am running one of their rear sprockets. It's a 32T sprocket made to fit a KZ 750. I am trying to remember their name and coming up with something like:What size rear sprockets came on the 530 equiped kz's? Do you think there is a manufacturer who who would make a sprocket just for my project(530, less teeth)?

what wheel do u have? u mentioned swingarm, but no wheel.
and what size front sprocket do you have? you said 14-16...thats a big difference. and what ratio are you trying to end up with?

The wheel is a stock gsxr 1000 wheel. Not real sure of the dinensions. I do not have a front sprocket, but listed 14-18, meaning these are the choices I have found. I am looking for a ratio close to stock, maybe a bit more for acceleration. One of my main reasons for this post is to come up the right 530 sprockets i need to match the ratio i listed.

One of the things you need to watch for is chain to swingarm pivot clearance, the aluminum swingarms are thicker in cross section than the original steel ones. On my 80 KZ750E with a 83 GPz750 swingarm, I'm going to need a 17 tooth front sprocket (530 chain) to raise the chain up off the swingarm, I have a offset 16 tooth 530 sprocket on there right now, and with the bike on the center stand the chain hits the swingarm pivot.
I'm using a 4.5" wide 17" 99 GSX wheel and milled 1/2" off the sprocket mount face so I could center the tire in the frame, that left me with 1/16" clearance between the chain and the tire.
On the sprocket ratio question, we are running a 18 front/45 rear 530 chain combo on the GPz750 powered KZ650, and GPzInfested wants to put the 17 tooth front sprocket on so he can do wheelies
18/45 or 17/42 are my suggestions, unless you want to pull wheelies
Sprocket Specialist will make you any rear sprocket you desire, that's where I have to get the rear sprockets for the Morris Mags on my 750 twin.
