ZX636 Front End on KZ900: Need Front Turn Angles from Someone...
12 Jun 2008 19:03
Hey all,
In installing my Zx636 front end on my KZ900, it seems like the turn angles are really short due to triple tree stops. The KZ forks are 8" wide while the ZX are 10", will have to make some slight mods to the tank (move backwards 1/2" or so.
For those of you that have completed a ZX636 front end swap, can someone do so simple measurements for feedback.
I would think the following would be sufficient but if anyone has a better way please by all means feel free to help out.
With the wheel straight, place a piece of tape on the concrete and mark dead center. Rotate left, tape & mark and repeat for the right. What measurements do you guys come up with off dead center?
Thanks,
Old Man Rock

Before making any mods to the new front put the tank on and carefully try turning left and right. Eventhough trees are wider they can be less off-set and much thicker forks which means that turning radius will be much bigger than with stock front. I just swithed from a ZX7R front to a GSXR -98 USD -front (bike originally ´83 ELR) and turning radius i now even worse i.e turns less than before.
Z1000R ´83...Slightly modified...

I don't know what seat you have but the Corbin normally leaves a gap between it and that tank and I moved my front tank mounts back to gain some steering angle with the '01 Gsxr forks I have. I cut the stock mounts off and welded them back on to a notch that was already made on the coil mounts. I was able to move the tank back about a 1/2 inch or so this way.

Yep, same here. Actually, all I did was epoxy some 1/2" objects in the underside tank "C" so the rubber doesn't go all the way into them. Then with a little pressure, squeezed the "C" around the rubber mounts. Nice tight fit.
In doing so, I have been able to increase my angles significantly but still not sure how much I should be seeing. I should just go to the bike shop and confirm through rotating a new bike front end...
I too have a Corbin seat "Gun Fighter" and will have to modify the under seat mounts and latch 1/2" back as well... DOH!
Thanks guys,
OMR
