Hi, I have a 1973 Z1 900 with a non standard frame # That i, so far have not been able to find out why. instead of the standard Z1F XXXXXX, it's got "G 40140307" (the actual #). Now this bike has 6600 original miles on it. Everything that has a date code, dates early 73. So does anybody have any idea? Todd

As you probably know, it is a replacement frame (for whatever reason). I owned a KZ1000A1 purchased new in late 1976 and the cases were warrantied. The State of California had to issue a new motor VIN (despite that titles were issued based on frame VIN's:blink: ) so I ended up with a non-standard motor VIN. The same has happened to your bike, except the frame was replaced. Because vehicles are taxed and controlled on a state-by-state basis and each state has its' own independent numbering system...the only way to track down your series is to discover which state the bike was in when the frame was replaced.

BTW, is this number embossed in the triple tree or is it a sticker? If it is a sticker, then might there be a state logo also?

It's on both the sticker and the frame. I'll continue to investigate. Thanks. Todd
