Old tire
14 May 2008 21:14
Has anyone ever heard of Carlisle tires? The local shop has a NOS sitting on the shelf that is a white wall in the right size. Any ideas? The real downfall other than the age and the old round style tire with limited corners is that I don't know if I can find a matching front. My other one I am looking at is a set of the IRC WF-920 (yeah, figured the flames would be cool). Or other suggestions. I would like to stay under 200.00 on my first set of tires until I see how well everything works, but I would like to get a decent set of tires for the commute to and from work.
Thanks,
KC

For under $200 shipped to your door you can get Dunlop GT501's by price matching MAW to Dennis Kirk, and that's about as good as it gets for tires for the KZ's. I have bought three or four sets composed of 130/90/16 rear and 110/90/19 front that way in the last couple of years.

Who is MAW? Also, for balancing, do you take them in to have that done or do it yourself?

Not to hijack the thread...
but Steell where do you get your tires mounted and balanced?
I need some tires taken care of and really do not know who to go to.

First set I mounted and balanced myself, last 2 or 3 sets I mounted but didn't bother to balance and didn't notice any difference.
I have a Harbor Freight tire changer with the motorcycle adapter, but I only use it to break the bead, I can demount and mount them faster and easier by hand. But I have changed over 1000 tires by hand, everything from lawnmower tires to earthmover tires, motorcycle tires are easy.
Just checked your profile and discovered you are local
$40-$60 at Benson (McGalliard and Nebo) if you take the wheels to them, don't know about Anderson PowerSports as I have never talked to anyone that had them done there.
Give me a call

How old? I ran a set of those years ago, they were cheap at the time and didnt last very long as I remember.
I am not sure I would want to buy them considering there age, besides the new tires have come a long way over the last few years

Thanks for the help and suggestions. I can't seem to find the right sizes on MAW, but I did find some Dunlops and Bridgestones on Chaparral that look like they would work. Just need to find an excuse to go down to San Bernardino one of these days.
I was looking at the Carlisle because it was about 30.00 cheaper than my original choice, but after what I've heard I will hold out for a better quality tire. It was just the cheap part of me that it appealed to
.
Thanks for the help. If anyone has experience with Bridgestone tires for good or bad I would love to know now before I pick them up next week.
