kz650 Tire width question
11 May 2008 13:58
Looking at the stock size online (130/90-16), it appears that the tire for the kz650 is about 5.2" wide. This correlates to a 130mm. According to the tire sizing, this results in a sidewall height of 117mm (130*90%). What I want to do is to put a 150/80-16 on to get a little more tire on. However, this means the tire would be almost 5.9" wide, but the sidewall would be 120mm which is much closer to the stock height of 117 verses a 140/90 which has a sidewall of 126mm.
Is it possible to put a 150/80 tire on the kz650? Or is this going to be too wide. I have the mag rims and I have removed the chain guard.
Thanks for the help.

If you only travel in a straight line, then I suppose putting a 150 tire on a 3.00" wide rim might be ok.
If you check the tire manufacturers websites I think you'll find that a 150 calls for a 3.5"-4.00" minimum rim width. Personally, I think installing tires on rims of less than the required minimum width is not a good idea, although there are those that do it.

hmm, never thought of that. I was just trying to find the max that I could fit on there. Well, thanks for the reply, I guess I will be going back to the 130/90 then as I can't find any 140/80 tires.
