Oh CRAP! Zx6r 530 Rear Sprocket Nowhere.... was created by Old Man Rock
Hey all,

While thinking about this I just realized a possible HUGE screw up in my project.

KZ900 swingarm converted to 2003/2004 ZX6rr. (5.5" rim w/180mm tire)

KZ900 is designed around a 630 chain/sprockets.
ZX6rr is designed for a 520 chain/sprocket.

Here's the "Oh CRAP" I just realized....

KZ Offset Counter sprockets are available in 530 or 630 sizes. The ZX6r/rr rear sprockets are only available in 520 sizes.

Preference would be due to chain width and clearance issues is to have a 520 offset counter sprocket. Tensile strength is a concern but with new chain technologies, a 520 chain now has over 9000 lbs strength.

damn it, damn it, damn it, damn it, damn it, damn it:woohoo:

Anyone have any ideas other than get drunk?

NOTE: I have already e-mailed Kosman and Precison regarding a custom 520 counter sprocket.

Anyone out there found a rear 530 sprocket that would fit a ZX6r?

www.sprocketspecialists.com/

Download their catalog and look at the sprocket specs for the year and model bike that your rear wheel came off of, then look for a sprocket with the desired chain pitch that matches the specs.

They are the only place that supplies sprockets for my rear Morris Mag that I have found.

Around $60-$70 though :(

I just looked and they don't list the sprocket specs any longer :(

You'll have to call and tell them you have a 2004 ZX6 RR and you need a 530 sprocket, if they don't have one they'll make it for you.

This is funny :D

Just on a whim I checked the specs for a 76-79 KZ750 twin sprocket, and guess what? The specs (bolt hole diameter, bolt circle diameter, center hole diameter) are exactly the same as a ZX6 RR, and the 76-79 KZ750 twin is a 530!

I checked the specs at JT sprockets, at least they still list them.

Problem solved :)

Hey Steell,

Thanks for the link, I've sent them an e-mail inquiry. As far as I can tell, they only make rear sprockets, couldn't find NON OEM counter sprockets on their site. Hopefully I'm wrong.

$60 - $70 for a rear 530 sprocket would be cheap... B)
I'd be good with that price.

Same time, I have other inquiries out for Kosman and Precision to see If I can get a KZ900 520 counter sprocket fabricated. Outside of tensile strength concerns that I feel the new chain technologies would be fine, this would shave a much needed 1/8" clearance.

The specs (bolt hole diameter, bolt circle diameter, center hole diameter) are exactly the same as a ZX6 RR, and the 76-79 KZ750 twin is a 530!

Are you serious????

Oh well, have to wait and see otherwise I'm screwed!

Thanks again,

From the JT Sprockets catalog.

ZX6RR 03-04

KZ750 twin 76-79

Might have to grind those two notches on the ID of the center hole, rat tail file or a dremel would make short work of that though. I have several worn out 750 twin sprockets, pay for shipping and I'll send you one so you can try it out before spending the $40 or so for a new one.

Sprocket Specialist will make you a custom rear sprocket, for a front sprocket if you take a 900/1000 630 sprocket and an appropriately sized 520 sprocket to your local machine shop, they should be able to cut and weld the two together. Might be a little pricey though.

Steell,

KZ750 twin 76-79... For $40 (530) I'd give this a try...

I Still want to see if a 520 counter sprocket is an option for I could use the 1/8" shaving.

Excellent & Thanks,
