Master Cylinder Trouble was created by 1975KZ400D
Ok, so I just bought a brand new master cylinder for my 75 KZ400 and when I hooked it up it and filled it up with brake fluid it wouldn't pump the fluid into the system when I pulled the brake lever. Any advise? What am I doing wrong?

You have to bleed the master cylinder before you try to bleed the system. Put some fluid in the master, plug the hole that you attach the hydraulic hose to with your thumb, then pump the lever. Pump it a few times until you feel the pressure pushing your thumb, then its bled. Technically, then your supposed to bleed your way down the line, at the other end of the brake hose where it meets the caliper and then the caliper itself.
Good luck!

I tried that and it's still not working. Any other advice?

Thanks!

I was having a similar prob bleeding the brakes on my ZN700 (dual front/single rear), and bought a vacuum bleeder kit similar to THIS .
1/2 hour later, and I had brakes that worked as good as/better than new! :woohoo:

IIRC, the kit I actually bought was called "Miti-Vac", and can also be used to measure and aid in adjusting intake vacuum pressure on autos.

I have one of these kits as well, but I also have a speed bleeder, which doesn't allow you to use a miti-vac. I don't have much experience with the speed bleeders, but when the head rusted off of my regular bleeder I figured it would be a good oppertunity to upgrade. I've heard they work great, but I don't know much about them or how they work and it didn't really come with instructions.

Ok, I think I've got it figured out. There was some serous gunk in my caliper. Anyone know where I can get a rebuild kit for my caliper now? I've been looking around but all I can find are rebuild kits for master cylinders.
