The Pingel Motor Mount Kit

Well, the nice man from the post office finally brought it. AS a backgrounder, I've been looking for a heavy duty motor mount kit for my 1978 kz1000 project.

I found one at Pingel online. It appears quite similar to the kosman kit. all of the plates are much thicker, and the spacers on the rear mount are therefore shorter.

With the exception of the two bolts on the right lower engine mount (the two that screw into the frame), all of the bolts are larger and most of the mounting holes have to be drilled out slightly to accomodate them. This is by no means onerous.

The only downside so far is the rear mount plates don't come the brackets attached to hold the rear brake light switch on the right and the battery box on the right. Minor quibbles, when I figure it out I'll add it to this post.

On the whole this seems like a nice upgrade to the chassis. WHen the bike is running, I'll post more of this review.

What's the thickness of the plates? I assume 3/8" or so?

Its probably a bit late but here's my picture.



I'm headed out of town for a few days, I'm hoping to have the motor back in the frame next week...Then its degreeing cams!

How much $ was this?

I think when I got onto the site to find a pic the motor mount kit was $175.

I'm planning on buying some 6061-T6 plate and making my own using the stock mounts as templates. I have access to a mill, lathe, etc. so it shouldn't be all that difficult. Just have to source the hardware.

Unless you want to use ALL-THREAD for the longer bolt, I think Jeff at Z1E can get the long 10mm bolt from PMC in Japan made out of stainless... I have heard about a socket head and hex head version... not sure but you could check with him.

Here's what it looks like with an engine in the frame again.



The cases have been bead blasted and the cylinders sprayed black. Once I get around to it I'll bolt the head on and actually try to start it. Things fit pretty well. I had to struggle with only one bolt. The rest slid into place once I bored out the holes to the proper size.
