tire and rim width suggestions was created by Kawiman80
I have purchased a 6" over swing arm off of ebay and need some recomendations on rim and tire sizes. The width is 9" at the axle adjusters. I would like to use a sportbike rim if neccessary but I do have an 18x3.5 rim that can be laced to a hub that I have. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, plus any info on any other mods to make it fit also greatly appreciated.:S
Thanks Mike

I'm guessing that 4" is probably about as wide as you can go without making some mods. I have used a 3.5" with no problems. I have a 6" on mine now and it was a real pain to make it work. Keep us posted on the progress. By the way, is your '80 and LTD model? Nevermind, just noticed the "G" in your signature. Does your EFI still work on that Classic?

I DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME TO REALLY TEAR INTO IT FOR A COMPLETE RESTO ON IT RIGHT NOW I SHOULD HAVE MORE TIME IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS. I POST PICS SOON. I HOPE YOU GUYS APPROVE.
THANKS FOR THE INFO.

measure about 10" forward of the axle mounting area, that is about where your tire will be riding which is your max width;)

Hey Plummen, The width 10" forward is 7.5" wide. Not much room for a sport bike rim? But I have a 3.5" aluminum spoke rim> would a 150 series rubber fit? What ratio would you recommend? it's 18" dia.

yes mark i do have a bog in the lower rpm but it is not bad. i need to change the pilot jet from a 17.5 to a 15 and it should take care of the problem.

id say something in the neighborhood of a 150/70 18 would work out pretty good on there;)

I think I had a 150 (or maybe a 160?) on my 3.5" rim. That was with the stock 630 chain and sprocket set up. I think the first problem you're going to run into is the chain hitting the tire. 7.5" inside the swingarm is pretty wide. 7.5" = 190mm, so you could probably squeeze a 170 or 180 on there, but again, you'd have to offset your chain and would need a wider wheel too. I think the widest tire recommended for a 3.5" rim is the 150mm. I think wireman is right on with that suggestion. ;)

Now how about some pictures??:P :)
