Changing rear wheel bearings. was created by Oldwolf
Changing rear wheel Bearings on a 77 KZ1000. The Manual says to tap them out then press them in. Do you Press them in by hand? Swing Arm bearings tap out and then press in with what kind of press.

I don't think they can be pressed in by hand. I thought you could use a round tool to drive them in? haven't done bearings in a long time, in cars they use a hydraulic press.

wheel bearings:remove snap rings get yourself a piece of brass rod and a hammer, tap tap tap.it might help to toss the bearing in the freezer wrapped in something for 20-30 minutes.from what i remember bearings are same 900-1000;)

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

Just did wheel bearings (front and rear) over the past several days on my KZ750R1...cumulative time for doing the bearings (wheels off the bike), e.g. bearing removal and installation, was about 15 minutes. For me the key is having the correct tools...this meant that I had both a tool for bearing removal (search eBay for a motorcycle bearing tool) and a bearing driver set. I have maybe $60.00 in both these tools, but I have five bikes to maintain. You will be able to fabricate tools to drive bearings (a socket the same diameter as the bearing might do) but the bearing removal tool was a joy to use...there are several threads on this site on what I'm typing about:)
