Bad Bead?

I Recently bought a pair of Cheng Shin Baracuda tires for my 81 KZ750. When I brought them in to get them mounted they had alot of touble beading the rear tire. Is there a problem with my tire or possibly the rim? They inflated them to 90 psi and still no luck with sealing the bead.

90 psi?? They have more guts than I do :woohoo:

Probably corrosion, it's a good idea to clean the bead area of a rim before installing the tire.

I assume we are talking tubeless?

I think I might just stick a tube in at and buy some peace of mind for about $8. My wife had a car tire with a flaky bead and it used to go flat slowly depending on which part of the tire it was parked on (would stress the bead). Not worth the misery that sucker inflicted on me. We finally just put a tube in it.

I got pretty scared when I walked into the shop and they had 60 psi on it. I was nearly shittin my self when I saw that they brought it up to 90! Is a tube really the way to go on a Tubeless rim and tire? I thought i read that you can't do that.

If you did, then whoever wrote it was mistaken, you can use a tube in a tubeless combo, but you should not mount a tire tubeless on a tube type rim.

Those dummies that mounted it should have taken it apart and investigated "why" it wouldn't seat, then either fixed the problem or left it unmounted and told you what you needed to fix the problem.

I just had a Barracuda mounted on a rear rim of my KZ1100B2...what they pulled off was a tubeless tire with a tube mounted (I had never noticed the weird combo and I don't know why the PO did that because the Barracuda beaded fine). The bad thing being, when you run a tube in a tubeless rim, you lose the tire valve...luckily I had an extra at home and was able to sprint home and get it...

could be a number of things like corrosion on rim. bits of rubber or dirt from old tire.take the tire back off and inspect the bead area of wheel use a fine wire brush or some 400 grit sand paper to clean it up.also use plenty of lube when mounting the tire as it makes it slip over the bead easier.DONT use soapy water as this will lead to corrosion eventually i use chassis lube(grease)or ATF just a small amount around the bead area of tire.if it still leaks i guess your gonna hafta use a tube but that should be the LAST resort.also check the bead area of tire for tears or imperfections.it is fairly easy to damage with tire tools or screwdrivers.
