Reccomended Front Forks air pressure for 79 KZ1000 ST.
14 Apr 2008 10:49
I can't seem to find a good pressure to run on my
front forks.
I've tried from 2 pounds to 20 pounds..front end still
washes out on curves (takes me into oncomming traffic).
Would it be a good idea to just put 6 inch pipes in
the top of each tube (on top of the springs) and do away with the air pressure system???
Thanks for any replies...

Any air system in the forks is an add-on. Kawasaki didn't use air forks on a KZ1000ST. So hard to say what other modifications may have been done. They have dual springs in each fork on the ST. Maybe someone removed one of them or something to that effect when adding the air caps. Mine's all stock with no air caps and the ST forks work real great.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

It came from the factory with air forks. They were
special ordered.
Guess I'll take the caps off and see whats in there.
Thanks for the replyl.

what is the condition of the front tire, if its old or hard that may be causing the problem and not the forks

It has the correct Dunlop tires front and rear. 80% tread.
I got the bike from the guy who bought it off the
show room floor in 1979.
It had a Vetter fairing and saddle bags which
had "Kawasaki" decals on them. It was a special
package deal and included AIR front forks.
I removed the fairing and saddle bags because I
just don't like the looks of them.
I've ridden Harley's that do the same thing. The
steering gets all mushy if you go into a corner a
little fast and tight. Its very scary.
I have not tried a spacer on top of the springs yet,
but I will when it warms up a little more.
I ride solo most of the time. Maybe more weight
would help.
Thanks for the replys...
