You'll want to replace the bearings/races/seals as a set.

It's sort of like when replacing a drive chain, both sprockets should be changed as well since they'll all have related wear to them.
Besides, I don't believe that most places who offer the roller bearings sell them individually.

No tip necessary, just glad to help.:)

If you stick around here long enough, eventually they're will be another person like yourself who'll stumble in here with questions that you'll have a chance to share with what you learned first-hand. B)

.....Only other factor aside from triple tree is that when riding, more obvious at slower speeds, something around the rotors is clicking and when applying the front brake, it goes away. I can't find a mark on the rotor leading me to believe it is a bump or anything on the rotor. I cannot reproduce the sound when I put it on the stand a simply spin the front wheel. Wonder if rotor is bent? It does brake really well (has duel front rotors as well).Ever heard of this? If not no worries. You've helped enough.

More than likely it's either the speedometer reciever mechanism that is within the front wheel hub that you're hearing (which is normal), my 650 has a similar sound.
OR, it could be that your brake pads are worn and/or slightly loose, which would explain why the sound dissapears when you apply the brakes.

Whoops, that was a misunderstanding. I meant, should I replace both upper and lower steering triple trees even if only the top is busted. Basically, if the top cracked, is it only a matter of time before the bottom blows too or is that not necessarily true? YES, I would replace all the bearings at once.

Gatcha on the helping out.

The lower tree is a slightly more solid piece, and IMHO it actually feels like it's made from heavier grade material.
If anything, it will usually bend (ask Bluemeanie about this) before it will break - which could explain why the top tree cracked.:S

The lower tree is a tough piece and it's unlikely that it's cracked, but if you can get a good deal on both upper and lower (undamaged condition of course), then it sure couldn't hurt to replace them both.

I have the whole assembly off of a KZ650b that I'm parted out for the engine. I'd be happy to sell it to you probably cheaper then you could get it on e-bay and I'll check it for straightness before I ship. Just shoot me a PM if your interested. I was gonna put it on e-bay anyway but I'd rather sell it to someones on here if I can.

i am fairly certain that the bottom tree is a steel piece and the top tree is aluminum....probly only need the top but you can have both for the price of shipping....(not to step on any toes Becker).
ive never personally seen a bottom tree break on a 650 that didnt hit a tree...have seen a few top trees cracked though.
its not an extended offer so let me know if you need it
happy to help

If you don't know what caused the top piece to crack, it's possible that a previous owner hit something. I would replace top and bottom to be safe since you'll have it all pulled apart anyway to replace the lower bearings. Ed
