Front fender removal issues

Hi all, I have been striping down my bike for weight. I was wondering now that the front fender has been removed will there be any bracing or balancing needed? Does the front fender act as a brace between the forks? I noticed some play in the front wheel, but that could be from a bad bearing.

Yes, the front fender does brace the forks.

Most fenders will have an extra piece of metal rivited to the fender around the center area by the mounting holes.

You can get a fork brace to help stabilize the front end.

That is kinda what I figured, by looking at the underside of the fender. Where would I find a fork brace? I assume it is after market.

There's been some for sale on ebay lately. I've seen them in the links at the bottom of the pages here.

What year & model bike do you have? Add that info to your signature in your profile section.
