It's not a stupid question but I have what may sound like a stupid answer..."It's your bike, do as you please."

On the plus side it will lighten your bike up a little. Some after market exhausts won't allow you to retain the center stand.

On the negative side, it will make doing oil changes and chain maintenance harder unless you have some other method to hold the bike upright with the rear wheel of the ground.

But I must ask, why cut it off? Just remove the spring and unbolt it.

76 KZ900LTD didn't come with a center stand cause of the Jardine mufflers but the mounting holes and flanges are still there. My bro bought a centerstand off e-bay and went to hardware store and got 2 big shoulder bolts. When you need a centerstand to do oil changes or wheel adjustments just hang the centerstand. Then when you are done just pull the bolts out and drop the stand. Pretty simple. I didn't get the brains I got the looks.   :pinch:

ive always ground the welds off and removed the center stand bracket mounts on my frames.but ive decided to leave them on my turbo bike for some reason which is kind of odd since it will probably only have about 5" of ground clearance between the drain plug and ground! thats gonna be a really short center stand!

Still recovering, some days are better than others.
