Progressive fork springs was created by Fourtoes
Just a quick question.

Is it a straight swap changing to progressive fork springs in my 1979 Z650?

Take off fork tops, out with old springs in with new, top up oil????

PS not getting on with this new website/forum layout.

Should be in with new.

I'd think it'd be a straight swap.

I have Magnum Progressive springs in my forks, but they were put in by a shop in the '80s.
While doing a fork oil change a few years back, I found it odd that I did not have to compress the springs to get the top caps back on the forks.
After some inquiring here on the forum, I decided to add a spacer made out of metal which was about 3/4~1" thick on top of the springs. Some mentioned that there should be some compression of progressive springs to get the caps on. I tried putting two spacers in each fork, but could not get the caps back on.
With the one spacer I have found it improved the problem I was having at the time, some bouncing and unstableness over multiple bumps in the road.

Apparently in some progressive spring kits, you get spacers that come with them.

If you haven't changed your fork oil lately this might be a good time to do it since you'll be doing 90% of the work by pulling the fork caps and measuring the oil level anyway. Ed
