I think so too, for as dirty as they get so quickly.

Had you considered the primer, paint. clear coat route? Then you could go gloss.

I'm thinking the original look would be satin/semi gloss. I am cleaning up the aluminum right now. Next i will mask off the aluminum and paint the black. It's a fair amount of work but should make them look a lot better! I will post some before and after pics when i get done.

Satin: gets stained easy, easy to touch up.
Gloss: More durable, harder to touch up.

Decide based on the appearance that YOU like.

Good question, I'm swapping my spokes for mags, and I'm trying to decide the same thing or possibly even same color as the tank, maybe:blush:

77 KZ1000A1 - Under going a psuedo ELR overhaul
79 KE175 (gone)
81 KZ550A2 (gone)
81 KZ750E (gone)

Sure it looks OK now, but wait until I really make it pretty, with some chrome and paint and some new tires and grips and the wiring. Don't forget the gearing, and the LED's and, and, and....

I think satin. It's more "forgiving". Also, I believe it's more like the original. One little trick to masking the curved areas is to run the narrowest tape possible. Ya'll may already know that, but just thought I'd share.

For the mags on my 79 I used Dupli-Coat Truck Bedliner paint. It's a very nice finish and is very easy to work with. Bonus is that it is very durable.
Will post pics of my bike when I've completed the repaint.

I went the gloss route.

Ofcourse, anything is better than sun faded rims . I've had my share of those!

I just did these mags last week and used "plasti-kote" super enamel "Hot Rod Black". I also polished the aluminum first before paint. Doug
