I think he's saying he got the 1/2" single caliper master cylinder rebuild kit instead of the 5/8" dual caliper master cylinder kit, so it's leaking from the master cylinder bore.

If that seal went in easily, you have the wrong size :)

Be sure and check the master cylinder bore for pitting, if it's pitted it has to be honed to remove the pits or it will eat the seal and it will leak again.

Yea steel, I got the wrong rebuild kit. 1/2 vs 5/8? How did I miss 1/8 inch difference? Chalk it up to new experience.

I rebuilt the m/c albeit incorrectly, then continued on with the calipers and line flushing.

Fortunately the old parts were not leaking at all, I was rebuilding it because my crash knocked off the cap and contaminated the brake fluid. There is a very small amount of pitting deep down the bore only meeting the primary cup.

So, if the local shop cannot get a hold of the 5/8 rebuild kit immediately, then I will clean then throw the old piston back in again while I wait for the new rebuild kit to be delivered. It is the only thing that is keeping me from riding now. Once again, there had been no leaking/malfunctioning at all prior to the crash.

Patience is for suckas... (p.s. I don't actually believe that).

Cheers all, Thanks for the advice, it has made all this possible.

Well, at least you didn't do like a dummy I know and grab the wrong can when refilling the master cylinder while bleeding the brakes.

Lacquer thinner does a really good job of cleaning the brake system, not recommended that anyone do it on purpose though

In my defense I had a lot on my mind that day:blush:

When reinstalling the calipers, I highly recommend applying new grease to the sliders. Made a HUGE difference on my brakes. Of course, that means that they were in really bad shape to begin with.
