Yes, it is possible, but not recommended, because two master links are then required, which doubles the chances of a master link failure. :)

I've had 2 master links on my 1000 for about 4 years now and never had trouble. Most failures are from the clip backing off. If you think about it, the side plates and pins are the same thickness as the other links. Its just that at the very end of the pins where the clip goes they may taper down slightly. I see no trouble with running two.

What I meant was is it possible to rivet links and only use the one master link?

Not following. Are you using a rivet style master link as opposed to a clip style?
