My 80 LTD came with the standard style, preload adjustable, shocks. My 81 LTD parts bike has the shocks with the aditional damper adjustment. Is there any real advantage to the fancier shocks ? Will it be worth the effort to clean 'em up for installation on my good KZ ?

Also ... on these damper adjustable shocks the turning adjustment knob just kindof turns smooth around to the various number marks ... shouldn't there be some kind of dentent of stop at each adjustment ... or is this just the way they are ?

I have both of those shocks as well, and there is no stops or clicks on my adjustable ones either, I think they probably came that way new. I'm going to use the adjustable ones since I already have them, at least until I find a set of ZRX shocks I can afford, I'll be damned if I am going to pay 2/3 the cost of a set of new works shocks for used ZRX shocks

Thanks steell for the reply. I'm gonna stick with the standard shocks for the short term. Maybe I'll clean and install the fancier shocks later on. I just can't believe there's that much difference anyways. It don't feel like the adjusting knob could possibly be "adjusting" anything !!! ???

Thanks JMKZHI, that's kindof what I was thinking. I'm wondering if my shocks and steell's shocks are broken and if they could be repaired ???

The only thing I can say about those shocks is for you to make double sure you have both set on the same setting or your bike can get a little squirrely on you. My dad had that problem on his honda 750 when they came out new and he had them set differently probably because I messed around with one of them as a kid. The bike will not handle right and you will notice it especially if someone is riding on back.
