Thanks

Yep, it can be done. Not cheap, but certainly doable.

Check out: www.kosman.net/ look for weld-up wheels.

79MKII has his rear modded from a 16x3 to a 17x6 by Klasmo in Germany. I'm not sure if he modded his front wheel.

Just rember pretty much any rim wider than stock will require a different swingarm.

Thanks Doug, yeah im using a redline 2 inch over swingarm so i think im good there. talked with kosman 425 to add half inch on both sides of rim, leaving diameter of rim at 16.

thinking i may do this.

Yep, rear done at Klasmo, front done at Kosman. I also had another rear done as Kosman a while ago. Both places do nice work. The welds are visible on the kosman wheel but they claim that makes it stronger. I widened an 18" Z1-R front to 3.5" so I could get a nice set of matching radials. I'd go 5.5" on the rear instead of 6" if I had to do over. Clearance was a pita.

Kosmans web site explains the whole process really well. Just be sure you specify which type of rim you want - they offer 2 styles. Keep us posted with plenty of pictures and details!

I'll try posting some pictures:

Here is the first wheel I had done, this is the style I didn't like so I ended up selling it. This was a 2.15" rear bumped up to 3.5" by Kosman.

This is a shot of the 2.15"x18" front wheel that I had widened to 3.5" for radial tires. This rim style is more like the standard KZ style. I just didn't like the looks of the other smooth style.

OK, finally here is the rear wheel that I had done Klasmo. This was a 3.00 x 16 LTD wheel that I had widened to a 6.00 x 17. The Klasmo wheel has no visible weld, and they swear they are 100% safe and have been tested on the autobahn. All of these wheels need finished when you get them - either polished, painted, plated, etc... I think around 3.5-4.0 is as far as you can go without using offset sprockets and spacers and all of that stuff. That might be the way to go. Should be a lot easier to set up, anyway.
