new bars, spinning controls was created by smd
Hey everyone--

Currently in the process of putting superbike bars on my '82 CSR 1000. I've got the new bars on, new clutch cable, relocated the turn signals, etc. But what I can't figure out is how to keep the controls on either side fixed in place. I've got just two screws that clamp the control housing around the bar, but if there's supposed to be an anchoring screw or something like that I'm missing it. I'm also mising whatever's supposed to keep the throttle cable snug in its notch in the underside of the control housing. Any help is appreciated.

I think you may have some bars that are too small, if you have a pair of cailpers, check the old ones and new, I think you will find a size problem

I checked the diameter of the bars, and they're the same: 0.875.

Thanks.

Check the control pods. Some have a little notch that fit into a hole in the orig bars. You can dremmel it off and they should clamp pretty tight unless you have flexed the pods trying to tighten them. Or you can drill a hole in the bars but be careful to have the pods in the position you want since they will not be adjustable after.

I'm not sure what you mean about the throttle cables. can you get a picture?

if the bars are just a smidge under 7/8 the controls may rotate. one quick and dirty is to mark where the controls are, then take the bars off and whack the mark with a hammer and the bars on the floor. they are now oval and the controls round, instant interferance and no more spinning. you can also grind a little bit off the parting line on the controls to pinch a little more.

you can cut a small, thin rubber strip about the size of a bandaid and use it as a bushing between the bars and the controls. did that on my kz750 and worked fine for years.

I started out with nothing, and still have most of it...
