Speedometer stopped. was created by Qdude
.

The speedometer is no longer working.

the cable itself is spinning, yet it does not seem to engage "whatever" it is that translates the spinning cable into needle deflection and odometer advance.

I was able to get it to work again for .2 miles by checking, re-inserting and finger tightening the cable at the back of the speedometer.

Do these things pop-off after about 30 years, or is this just an adjustment somewhere on the cable linkage? Do I have a fluke bad part, or is this a common easily amended problem?

BTW With my stock sprocket set-up, my speed in 5th gear seems to be close enough to
RPM/10 + 10 = MPH Actual speed.

if you take the cable off on both ends I am sure you will find on of them broken, most of the time its the end at the wheel.
No big deal buy a new cable
