Stearing bearing - advise needed was created by jcote75
Hi,

I'm currently in the process of changing all the bearing in the stearing sterm.

One simple question: In the kit that I purchase, there is a seal for the bottom bearing. When I removed the old bearing, I've notice that there were no seal for the bottom bearing. I've heard that this was intentional in order to let the water flow and don't accumulate in the sterm.

Is this the way to go? or I should install the lower seal.

Thanks for your help!
Joce

The lower seal is little more than a dust cover. Go ahead and use it.

You mean that little rubber ring? Yeah... I've switched all my bike's stems to tapered bearings, and sometimes I put it back sometimes I didn't. Once I tried and it made sense, another time I forgot about it, and on another I couldn't figure out how I did it the first time and left it off. It kept getting all deformed and in the way. Oh well...
