shaft removal help

i have decided to change my shift shaft, and i need to get that cover off, i need to know the process of getting it off, its a shaft drive so i assume there is some special trick to getting the shaft apart from the case. Please help im stuck.

Do you own a shop manual?

the rubber boot at the front of the dr. shaft move it forward rotate shaft look at the smooth ring front of dr. shaft u'll see a hole..insert a drift pin and push about 3/16 in. it is a small hole..the dr. shaft will free up..besst luck

ok i got it out and replaced the shifter shaft now i can not for life of me get the drive shaft back on the splines. is there a trick or something. i do have a shop manual but its useless for this problem.
