i see that the kz's have a few different tanks. i have a 78kz1000a with teardrop tank and like boxier cafe style. want to know what years would bolt on without much fab. i see the gpz's and kz's early 80's have boxy type cafe tanks with knee dents or dished or whatever the correct term would be. any info on this would be great.

There were SO many variations on kawasaki tanks...the front mount locations, the rear mount location and mount style and then there is the petcock location relative to your carb tops...you almost have to just get one you like and try it. You might find that a tank from another make of bike might fit good as well...lots of trial and error on this one.;)

Well, all things are possible, with sufficient ingenuity and money. It would take a fair amount of fabrication to make a GPz tank work on an early Z-style frame The primary problem being that the A/B style tanks are considerably shorter than the GPz style tanks (overall length on the 1982 KZ750R1 tank is about 25" and overall length of the 1981/2 GPz1100 tank is about 26"). Length of the A/B tank (yours) is about 23". So, if you could mount a tank (mount points are different) via fabrication, then the original seat won't fit...so now you are fabricating a new seat/seat mounts also... :)
