I HAVE FRONT BRAKES! was created by primemover

Hi all...

just wanted to touch base and say a HUGE THANK YOU!

I reassembled my 1978 KZ400 front brakes and everything appears to be in order!

yes, bleeding was a pain (and i question my wisdom of painting the calipers BEFORE the reassemble - as they are now a mess again - but will do my best to do a "touch up" with them either on the bike, or hanging to the side), but i finally got a pretty good/steady stream of only fluid coming out the bleed valve (using a syringe and tube system) so i decided... ENOUGH!

i capped the mast. cyl., cleaned everything up as best as i could and (drum roll please...) tried the front brake lever....

at first, the piston only moved a little, but after a few tries, it make contact with the rotor...

i gave the wheel a spin and BOOM! The thing stopped on a dime!

the pads do rub the rotor a little (so the wheel does not spin completely freely - though this is probably normal)... i also suspect that once this bike hits the road (sometime WAY in the future), the pads will wear down appropriately and the wheel will spin a bit more freely...

anyway...

i'm thrilled!

i'll be moving onto other "front end" stuff soon...

thanks again for your combined help/advice...

best wishes for a happy holiday season!

Good to hear! I'll be putting mine back on and bleeding them in the next month. From what I hear, I'm not looking forward to the bleed process :(
