1980 KZ1000 Wheels on 1981? was created by Norseman
Folks, I'm having a rough time figuring out what wheels could replace my current spoke wheels (front is 1.85X19 part no. 41025-1029 and rear is 3.00X16 part no. 41025-1030). I'm looking for cast wheels, and came across a 1980 KZ1000 front which is 19" with dual discs. How could I determine if hub/axle dimensions would fit? Since Kawasaki.com changed the site structure, I can't figure out how to search by part number:angry:

If anyone has any advice, I'd really appreciate it...

Look for the wheels off a 81-82 KZ1000K LTD or KZ1000J Standard, they will bolt right on.

You can also look in the Filebase under the KZ Information tab at the top of this page, it has a wheel bearing chart.

Thanks, steell. Specifically, I'm looking at a 1980 KZ 1000 19" front wheel, and wondering if there is any way to determine if it will fit.

Is there anything wrong with your spoke wheel? If not, I'd keep those. I like the looks of both spoke and alloy

It won't fit, your bike uses the leading axle design and the diameter of the axle is smaller than what was used on the 1980 LTD's. You would be better off following Steell's advice and look for wheels off the 81 or 82 LTD.B)

Thanks for the help, Guys. Steell, you obviously are right - it was more of an ignorant "shot-in-the-dark" on the 1980...

I have to profess that the only reason I'm looking for cast wheels is laziness - cast is much easier to maintain than spoke:S My wheels are in great shape, the rims that is. The spokes need to be replaced due to corrosion and rust. I'll probably end up buying new spokes and re-lacing:angry:

Look-wise, I do agree with you Easyrider, spokes do look very nice when shiny and clean.

I checked Kawasaki.com and it appears both models use the same axle and damper, so my assumption is they are inter-changable?
