81 gpz 1100 b1 ELR seat
17 Dec 2007 08:21
old member, back online. need source for ELR seat for 81. looked in archives, have heard people talk about them, but corbin, sargent, etc. say they don't have. I have found covers, but don't want to tear up stock seat to get pan. Any help? Thanks.

ELR seats appear at irregular intervals on eBay...I'm not sure they are regularly available from any single source. Expect to pay between US$150 and US$250 on eBay. Or do what I did, buy a trashed B1/2, J1/2 seat and an ELR cover and make your own.

Suggestions for solutions: McD hit it on the head, if you keep an eye on 'the bay', they pop up from time to time...not often, but occassionally, and (naturally) he hit the average prices on the head. My approach would be to pick up (also as previously suggested) a roached GPz/J pan and have it custom cut and upholstered.
What not to do: Don't buy one of those ELR seat covers on eBay and take a roached GPz/J pan to an upholsterer and ask him to make a foam seat to fit the cover...even with pics of what it's supposed to look like... ...don't ask...
Take a roached pan and lots of pictures of a real ELR seat to a quality upholsterer and tell him what you expect.
I've done it both ways and there is no comparison...the built seat is better and it was cheaper...damn it ...

thanks everyone. where have I been? i'm not the shparpest knife in the drawer, and lost my password. I have been reading your posts, and using the info, but without a specific question, didn't want to bother you guys. Spent most of summer on ebay buying injection parts, and happy to say bike is running (well) on original injection. Only had to buy 3 junk systems to get everything working. Spring will be tires and fork seals, but is tagged, insured, inspected, and riding now. Pics later, when I can figure out how to down size picture file. thanks again.

Yeah man, don't go hackin' up an original GPz/J seat, just wait out a roached-up unit with a solid 'pan' and then make yourself a replica unit. Less expensive, better fit and finish, and you won't stay up late at night wondering how many KZR riders are hatin' ya for an original violation.
