KZ900/KZ1000 Rear Sprockets was created by 79MKII
Can anyone tell me if the rear sprocket bolt patterns are the same for the KZ1000 and the KZ900 w/drum brake? I think the 900 LTD w/disc brake is the same, but I'm not sure about the drum. I'm looking to use a KZ900 spacer on my 1000 if it will work, item 31 92026-108 SPACER,REAR HUB shown below. Thanks

KZ900LTD takes a different sprocket than any other 900/1000.... and if my fading memory is right the drum brake bikes are different than the disc bikes.

I think you're right. I was looking on the web site for JT sprockets and none of the 900's share the same rear sprocket with any of the 1000's. :( I was hoping to use one or two of those to offset my rear sprocket. Back to the drawing board...

Mike, they are completely different. Sprocket carrier size and bolt pattern. On the drum brake that is.

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought I was on to something there. Any other ideas for a rear sprocket shim?

Why are you wanting to shim it ?

I've got a big conversion going on and the chain is hitting the 180 rear tire.

Are you using offset sprockets with a smaller chain ? I think you can find this conversion pretty easy. Many here and elsewhere have done it. Besides the shim on the 900 is pretty thin and probably not be enough space to clear a 180.

Yes, I have a 14mm offset front and a 15mm spacer on the rear, and the tire still hits. I think it's because I went with a 6" rim and not a 5.5". I also went down to a 530 chain, but that doesn't really help because they are the same width as a 630. I'm looking heavily into a 520 conversion now, but I think I'll still have to shim. The problem I'll soon run into is the chain/frame clearance. It's barely clearing now even with the chain hitting the tire. I think a narrower chain AND the rear sprocket shimmed should do the trick. I'll try to attach some pics...

Beautiful work Mike ! Maybe you can visit a local machinist and have him build you the spacer you need. Have you checked with APE ? Or any other go fast guys ?
