I just got home with my new bike, a 76 kz750. It's beautiful, the best $600 I've spent on a vehicle.
It needs new sprockets and a chain.
Biquetoast said to get a 17 tooth front sprocket, but what size should I put in the rear. I would like to be a little speedy, most of my driving will be on the highway. But I want to have a good all around bike.
Also, what kind of chain should I get, it's pretty stretched out. I see several different kinds, but know absolutely nothing about any of them.
Seperate question, can I swap the wheels and brakes off my 650 to the new 750. I would prefer the mags and dual disc off my 78 650.

Hmm... before I go down the road of specific recommendations, I need to ask... what's a good cruising speed/rpm for you?

I mean this stuff can be calculated, and I'm sure you can find links to the calculators here in the forum.

I use a 17/38 with a 106 RK x-ring chain. That gets me a nice cruising RPM. I find that the twin loves 60-65 mph the most... but doesn't mind 70+... if *you* don't... ;) (twins vibrate just a bit...)

38 teeth is the smallest rear sprocket made so add the one tooth to the front over stock (17) and you really have a good combo ,, I got all of mine thru Z1 as they have the best prices .. I agree with my Toast on cruising speed and then comfortable RPS ,, B) B)

Your wheel question ? I think they will fit if the wheel bearings are changed , I do know KZ1000 wheels are the same .. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong B) B)

Not to trash Jeff and the gang, but I buy my front sprockets at Dennis Kirk, because they carry the SunStar brand with the little hole for the lock washer... I get everything else from z1enterprises.com....

generally I find where the bike likes to cruise, and ride at that speed. On my 650 it seems to like to cruise at 75-80. My old cbr liked it at 90+. So I just want a combo that will get me through all my gears comfortably. Don't need a ton of speed, and hate boggy acceleration. 17/38 sounds like what I was thinking, but I've never really done the math.
