doesn't feel safe was created by bison
Hi guys,

I recently got my 79 SR back together(low budget resoration), and when I hit bumps in the road the handlebars kick a little bit back and forth, kinda like a mini speed wobble. It's not bad, but it sure feels odd.

I didn't rebuild the forks or anything, but I did remove them to check the steering stem bearings (still balls)which are in great shape

I also put on shorter handle bars. I wonder if my forks are shot, or if the new handlebars changed my riding position enought that I just notice this a little more.

I never removed the forks from the front wheel, but maybe I didn't get them aligned correctly when I clamped them back on the bike.

does this sound familiar...?

thanks

I guess that's possible, also... how about your bearing adjustment? Sounds like it might be loose? Get front wheel off ground and grab front forks and check for loosness.

blue is right you have something going on in the bearings, put it on the center stand and pick up on the front wheel, do it in several different places, turning wise, did you pack the bearings when you put it back together?
but it sounds like they are loose

I bet it's worse when you're leaned over in a turn.

If so, it could be your swingarm bushings/bearings.

Don't skimp on the important parts! Ditch the BBs, get a proper set of tapered roller steering head bearings.
