PODS, ok so now what holds the carbs up? was created by xstreamcanadian
This may be a really stupid question, but with pods, what supports the rear of the carbs? are they held soley by the rubber holders? If so is this enough? Mine are all new parts, and I could see them leaking air in a short time, maybe I am missing something?

Thanks

Yes, they are held by the intake boots only. Shouldn't be a problem.

It is a problem, we've had a number of customers where the carb holders crack prematurely. The worse situation is the combination of carbs with a set of K&N pod filters. I would run a couple of zip-ties from the carbs to the frame to take the weight. Just make sure the ties are not interfering with the linkages.

I had pods on my bike long time ago, and did not like the carbs hanging off the holders. I used mechanics wire and made a simple but nice hanger. You might be ok but I would add just a little support.

It is a problem for sure. You can do the ziptie thing, but even they will break real regularly, so replacement is an ongoing thing, but simple. A better way to do it is to fabricate your own brace out of metal of some kind. I doubt your carbs are exactly like mine, but the way the slide type Mikuni's are made, there is a part of the main body of the carbs towards the center, up close to the engine that sticks up higher than the valve cover close to one of the rear valve cover bolts. What I did was take a piece of metal with a 6mm hole in one end and bolt it to the valve cover bolt, and file/grind the other end the correct length and shape to kind of make an L shape finger that kind of wraps around this part of the carbs that sticks up effectively holding the top of the carbs from falling back away from the head. Kind of hard to explain in words, but the whole homemade bracket ends up being no longer than maybe an inch to 1.5" and less than 1/2" wide at most. Worked great.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Sounds like a good idea RonKZ650, do you have a real pic of the bracket?
