Bent forks? was created by jjdwoodman
I'm having some trouble locating replacements for the 83 voyager. The fork tube are bent slightly after the wreck. It's not much, just enough so you can tell. Can I straighten the forks in a press like I would a hydraulic ram, or will they be weakened too much?

I also have a set of forks off a kz1300, but the air inlet is different, it doesn't have the crossover. Can I take both sets apart and use just the inner tubes from the 79 in the 83, or are they different all the way through?

Can't help you with the swap but DO NOT rebend them in any way shape or form!! You'll never get them to factory specs.Sorry, but check with Kawasaki.com about which ones fit.

I once had that problem. Went to a specialize motorcycle shop and they got it straight for 40$.

If your tube are clean, I think 40$ is worth avoiding searching for new one.

Hi JJ,
If they're not bad go ahead with the press. You will not likely get to factory specs but if they work, they'll be fine. If not, I've got a set in reserve that I'll send your way for a bargain.

I had a minor accident once and bent the forks on my KZ400. I placed them in a jig and used a hydraulic jack to straighten them and it worked pretty well. I drove them another 10K before I sold it and I didn't notice any problems. The tires wore like before. The bike is still on the road.

Thanks for the help guys! Here's an update. I got the bent forks off today, and took the caps off the tops of both the bent and the 79 forks. They are different inside so I can't swap out parts like I hoped.

The bent forks are about 13/16" out of true in 12" or so of fork length. The kicker here is that one tube has just a barely perceptible crease where the tube goes into the lower triple tree.

Is that going to negatively affect the strength of the tube when I straighten it?

Thanks for the offer KZCSI, I may have to take you up on it, but am wondering if you've done one like this before. I have straightened hydaulic cylinders that were like this before, and they worked fine, but I'm wondering about the lateral load on one of these.

13/16 in 12" I think that is bent more than I would trust to try and fix, have you tried some of the on line bone yards for a replacement set
