Triple tree problem

Triple tree problem was created by Bluemeanie
Started taking my bike apart today (bent fork), had to tap the left fork out of the tree. Upon inserting new fork I found it to be about 1/8" off center on the upper clamp. I can pull on fork slightly and push with my finger and it centers. So apparently my lower left clamp on tree is bent slightly. I can see it. I have no money now and was wondering if anybody here has ever tweaked them a little bit? I was thinking of inserting old fork in and using as a long lever. Is this a workable thing or am I screwed and have to rip it apart futher? Thanks guys

I bought something from that guy 3 weeks ago. Still waiting to get it. I think that guy gets "jacked-up" quite a bit:silly:

Hi John,
From what you're describing something is bent. I'm not talking about the frame, I'm referring to the triple clamp itself. Can you fix it? Sure. Is it worth it, probably not.

Sorry Guy

do you have the right fork loose and the upper triple loose on the stem? or are you replacing left fork also?

I don't have stem loose as you don't need to for changing forks. I am replacing right fork also. I'm going to pull that fork today. If right side is ok it will appear that left lower clamp is just slightly tweaked. If it was a major bend I would not even think about it, but so far it appears very minor. Like I said, going into top tube is only 1/8" off.

sounds like it is just twisted a tad, i'd bet the right fork comes out hard and is an 1/8 inch off the opposite way. the lower triple is a pretty stout item, i would think the upper tripple would bend first.
i did not mean loosen the stem in the neck, i meant the upper triple onto the stem.
the last 400 i put together a few weeks ago gave me all sorts of headaches getting the forks to go back together, i suspect the front to a hit at one time, but, when together is goes straight, no wobbles, pulls or nothing

Took only 10 minutes but right fork slid right out nicely and "new" fork slid right up in there as nice as can be! So I'm assuming the integraty of the tree has not been compromised? Lower left clamp does not appear to have been moved back, just twisted a tiny bit as bend in fork was close to it. The saga continues! By the way, a friend of mine provided these really nice forks for free! It's cool to have good friends! ;)

Damn! Fork is about 3/4 inch longer which is workable, but upon closer inspection I found that caliper mounting holes are about 5/8 lower! I'm assuming these "nice" forks are now worthless junk to me? Any thoughts? :(
