Gas Cap Leaking was created by brox
My gas cap has been leaking on my 1981 750 LTD. I replaced the rubber gasket, and still can smell gas from the gas cap. It is stinking up my garage, any other ideas to fix this? Thanks.

Remember your cap is vented so air can get in the tank to replace gas as it's consumed, so it's normal to smell gas at the cap. If it's not leaking when you ride with a full tank, it's normal.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Is this the rectangular shaped cap? If so, even though you replaced the large seal ring, it may still not seal well. You need to replace the orings that go around the two M5 mount screws. These provide spacing to keep the cap tight on the seal. If you take the cap apart, you will find yet another oring around the key mechanism and this can leak as well... you will actually get gas come out the keyhole if this oring is shot.
