Frame modified?

Hi guys, considering buying a 750 twin, attached is a photo.
Do you think the cross pipe unde rthe seat has been modified? To my mind, it looks a lot like it used to carry through in a straight line from the shock attach tube, which would make more sense from an engineering standpoint.
I don't know much about the twins, advice required.

Regards, Andrew.

Yes, that tube has been cut, moved and welded again in a new place.

I'd think about maybe offering $50 for it here, but only for the parts.

In the US that would be a 1982 KZ750M1 CSR (assuming it's chain drive), if belt drive then it would be a 1983 KZ750K1.

I can see the badly rusted chain in the second pic, so it should be the '80 KZ750-M1 CSR.

I agree with steel, it's not worth more than maybe $50.
It would make a good parts donor, but you wouldn't catch me riding it. Not because it isn't a beauty queen, but with the hack-job done on the frame and the horrible seat(?), who knows what else has been "mickey moused" to the point of being dangerous. :S

I'm not trying to steer you away from buying it, just tossing in my opinion on the obvious flaws it has. ;)

Think triangles! Keep thinking triangles! When the PO moved the top tube down to lower the seat height he violated the triangle rule. The result is that the rear end is cantilevered, which is not necessarily a bad thing as long as the diagonal frame member is designed to take the load in flexure instead of compression and tension.

I'd not count it out, out of hand, just be aware of the situation. Hate to hear that the rear end fell off while you were negotiating a speed bump.

I wouldn't be riding it as is! It's just extremely cheap, and looks mostly complete. It would be pulled apart and rebuilt, and I'd repair that frame/horrible seat if I bought it.
The engine turns over believe it or not. Getting hard to find cheap project bikes down here in Australia.
