Looked through the archives, but couldn't really find anything on this issue.. ....

My 750's side covers are in really good condition except for along the top ridge there is some fading/oxidation going on (tried to take a picture but it's not showing what's wrong). I tried to fix this on my 400 with some "re-blacking" stuff and really screwed it up.

Since I'm going to get a buffing wheel to clean up my metal parts, has anyone had luck buffing out oxidation on plastic parts?

Had the same problem on my bikes side covers... I just sanded them down and repainted them using special plastics paint you can buy @ autozone... you can probably get something close to stock colors.... just my 2 cents

I'm guessing you'll probrably have to repaint 'em. I never had any luck buffing on sun faded, plastic parts.

I had a faded right side cover from bike sitting outside for a year (apt, no garage) I tried every polish I knew but all I got out of it was a really shiny faded area! Finally found a mint condition cover (same color w/ emblem on ebay $127!!) This or repainting is about all you can do bud!

This web site is pretty good, lots of tips and bike stuff in general. Here's one on plastic polishing. The end result is very nice.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Looks like I have alot of reading to do:lol: I glad that there's some references to aluminum polishing too, 'cause I was thinking of trying to buff up my engine cases and front forks.

the sad part is once the paint has got to that point, you can put some polishes on it and it will look good for a while, but it will haze over again, repaint is the best fix
