rear disc conversion for 81 kz650-h1
05 Oct 2007 11:14
Ok I have tried looking for this info through the archives and found tons of great information on different ways to convert the rear drum to disc... my question is which way is easiest??? most available??? most cost effective??? I have access to fab equip and people who know what they are doing but I would like to find something as close to bolt on as possible and still be able to keep a rear spoke wheel. any info would be greatly appreciated.. thanks in advance....

I am figuring that the rear spoke will be the hardest to achieve... but like I said I can fab it up if I have to I just wouldn't know where to start and I would just rather not... I was hoping maybe there is some kind of conversion to the 750 mag with disc brake then from that starting point maybe another conversion from mag to spoke.... I dunno it sounds good on paper though

Yes and no. The wheels can be used, but you need a new set of bastard sized bearings(I JUST went through this same thing trying to put kz1000 wheels on a 650) and the bearings cost an arm and a leg.
You can have them chromed also. Again, not a cheap route to take.

For the mag wheel conversion: Recent rear brake topic
81-83 KZ750-Ltd-4 (KZ750-H2/H3/H4)...(& maybe the 80 H1 model as well).
The Ltd-4s have the same frame as the 650-CSRs & share a number of parts including the exhaust system. The rear swingarm & wheel should be a direct swap. You'll have to fab a rear master cylinder bracket.
