'77 KZ650's take size 530 chain with 102 links. Please understand that original chains are endless type (no master link) and require considerable effort to install. If your current chain has a master link, the chain was replaced. Quality replacement chains (example D.I.D.) are available, but make sure the chain you buy has "o-rings." These o-rings help improve chain life and generally don't appear on cheapie chains. You should be able to buy a quality chain for about $60. If you use one with a master link, be sure to install the link facing in the right direction. List price on a genuine Kawasaki chain is about $310. These occasionally come up on eBay in New Old Stock condition (I bought one for $25) but it can be a long wait. Ed

You should always replace the sprockets when you replace the chain. Worn sprockets will be out of pitch and will wear out the chain rapidly.

It will cost you somewhere near $145 for the x-ring chain, clip master link, and both sprockets, from Z1 Enterprises.

And that's the cheapest price I have found for a quality chain and sprockets.

I don't know what kind of chain and sprockets Z1 enterprizes sells so I can't say yes or no to their stuff, but 2 things you want to look for is a decent front sprocket with the stock type hole for the lockwasher, and a decent rear sprocket with stock type look to it. You don't want a cheap sprocket that is flat looking like it was cut out with a cookie cutter. Dennis Kirk sells Sunstar sprockets which are dang close looking to original and I'm pretty sure who made the original Kawasaki sprockets. Get a good 102 link oring or xring (what in the ???? xring is is beyond me, I'm too old I guess). Otherwise you can get the original Kawasaki endless chain frequently on ebay 92057-1232. Right now not a good time, but they come and go for $50-$100. I bought one for $40 a few years ago. It's not hard to install the endless, you need to remove the swingarm, which trust me, needs clean and lube anyway.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Just remember...this is not an area you want to cheap out on. You get what you pay for. This isn't an area where you want to "get by". Better to wait a little longer and get a quality part. I agree...change your sprockets when you get the chain.
