Hello there.

I have a 1978 kz650 B and I have been having a clunking noise when I apply the rear brakes. my bike has the rear drum.

I really don't know what it could be. the brakes work just fine after the clunk.

has anyone had this problem??

thanks a ton

DO NOT RIDE AGAIN UNTIL YOU OPEN IT UP AND FIND THE PROBLEM, COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF ANY THING IS LOSE IN THERE,YOU DON'T WANT YOUR REAR TIRE TO LOCK UP!
had that pro with a car once and the tire locked up on it

Probably the arm that attaches to the lower part of your drum and to the front of the swingarm is loose at one end or the other. Check out the bolts.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I am going to check all the bolts again when i get home. I just tightened the tensioner bolts and the axle but the rod from the swingarm to the drum I can't remember tightening when I put everything together.

thank you everyone. here's hoping.

One or both nuts/bolts at ends of rear brake torque arm may require cotter pin(s). When available, I also prefer using self-locking nuts, and even self-locking castle-nuts if there's enough thread length. :)
