What a score! and fork question
27 Sep 2007 21:22
My new KZ1000P forks for the 750 twin project.
$30! The early 18" 4-bolt mags were $60 with drilled rotors and axles, sprocket, sprocket carrier and cush drive. My 4 piston Nissin calipers will fit like a champ with this setup. I'm stoked!
Now for my tech question, are the schreader valves worth anything on these forks? Do they help with preload or dampening?
Does anyone have a 1000P front axle with nuts they'd like to get rid of?
Thanks,
Matt

I'm almost certain I have a 1000p axle with nuts. I'll take a look when I get home. If you don't hear from me by Sunday send me a PM to remind as a reminder.

Spring preload? Rebound damping?
I think you might be expecting too much.
The Schrader valves are for putting air into the fork tubes. That's it.
The good news is that by increasing the air pressure you could potentially get an effect similar to what you describe. You'll definitely want to purchase or fabricate an air balance tube.
Congrats on the great deal!

An upgrade for the GPz forks that use air is to install progressive springs with correct spacers and not use any air pressure, should improve your forks.

From what I've just read on another site, it appears that the added air pressure aids in ride height adjustment and preload, but excess air pressure can increase the chance of blowing out fork seals. I'll probably just not use them.
Thanks again,
Matt
